OUR PHILOSOPHY

Dave Ward-Smith started Wake up and Thrive from experience.  In 2006, Dave crashed his paraglider and spent 10 days in a coma, shattering his lower spine and partially paralysing his left leg.  Every one of the therapies offered here have been involved in Dave’s amazing recovery.  His first degree was biology which has shaped his thinking, subsequently he studied a degree in Osteopathy and was a practicing osteopath in Hamilton when he had his accident and then became ultra interested in his brain damaged condition so he studied an online masters in Cognitive neuro psychology. This path led him towards Wim Hof, ice bath and breath work. Later on with the death of his wife from cancer he learnt about fasting, which could have saved her.  

Basically we give the body what it has evolved to need and by using bio hacks get your body to function like it should.

How we got here

Wake up and Thrive philosophy is based on evolution and natural living. For millions of years, humans have evolved to thrive under the natural conditions that we evolved in.  It was often very hot and often very cold… It was not possible to eat everyday and we  were constantly out under the sun.  Under these conditions we thrived. It is important to understand that these circumstances had many great effects on human beings and to remove most of them in modern life, whilst being comfortable, actually does a lot more harm than good.

Our bodies in fact need these challenges in order to function correctly.  The extremes of temperature give good hormonal balance, the sun makes vitamin D3 and helps enzyme action and periods of fasting whilst looking for the next feed induces the vital cellular rebuilding process called autophagy.

How we are now

We now live in the Goldy Locks zone; not too hot, not too cold. We eat three times a day plus snacks and so on. Our bodies are asleep. They don’t need to perform. We just have a constant stress generated by the media.

Our approach is to apply scientifically supported challenges to your body, to bring well documented health, wellness, vitality and longevity benefits. Tools you will be introduced to include are heat, cold, light, breath work and calorie restriction, including ketogenetic and all types of fasting.
